How wide is the space between your houses?
Can it fit a raccoon, a robber, a regiment?
While inside kids tug on legs and implore
When daggers are drawn between two of you,
There are no others’
Eyes to see

How big is the gap between your houses?
Can rats nest? Could a thin thief slip through crevices?
Would it provide passage to an entire invading army,
With tanks and troop transporters all draped with tarpaulin?

Your house with heat supplied by a custom system,
Run through baffles in a line, you’ve made yourself a superman,
But living all alone
In a dead-end cul-de-sac.

In the interim between two wars,
The distance ‘tween two dolphin leaps,
Can you see the Longhouse?
Can you go both wide and deep?
